Winslow Homer: High Cliff, Coast of Maine

Winslow Homer (1836 - 1910)
High Cliff, Coast of Maine
oil on canvas
76.80 X 97.20 cm
1894

Homer was born in Massachusetts in 1836, known for his landscapes paintings and a printmaker. He self taught himself, he began as a commercial illustrator. He also worked with water color, he did several famous paintings, his art exhibits in several art museums. He died in 1910 in his Prouts Neck studio, he was seventy-four years old.

"I cannot do better than that. Why should I paint?" - Winslow Homer

The oceans waves crash along the  rocky coast of Maine. Homer took refuge in Maine for thirty years and the upper right corner of the painting you can see two small figures that was a hint of humanity.

This painting is a land/sea scape but it brings the coast of Maine alive and how beautiful the waves crash against the coast. This painting reminds me of the ocean in which, I love thats how I came across to choose this painting.
